1. Product information and operational guidelines

Wheels and castors are defined as component parts which are interchangeable on their intended equipment, furniture, transport systems or other similar products for the purpose of making them mobile.

This product information refers to wheels and castors, particularly passive swivel castors, for non-motorized vehicles and equipment (also referred to as ”the object“) which are normally not moved at any speeds exceeding walking pace.

Wheels and castors thus defined can be allotted to the following task areas:

Home
e.g. seating or living room furniture

Service areas
general service furniture
e.g. shopping trolleys/carts, office machinery

Hospitals
e.g. hospital beds

Industry
e.g. light, medium and heavy duty transport equipment

Expert assembly is of paramount importance for correct use of the products:

  • a) The product must be firmly attached to the object at all the relevant prescribed points.
  • b) The object must possess sufficient firmness at these points.
  • c) The product‘s function may not be impaired or changed by assembly/ attachment.
  • d) Swivel castors must be attached in such a way that ensures vertical axle positions.
  • e) Fixed castors must be attached so that the wheel axles are aligned with each other.
  • f) An object may only be fitted with identical swivel castors. If fixed castors are also to be attached,only those recommended by the manufacturers may be used.

Special models must be specified for damp areas, areas subject to direct weather conditions or close to the sea, or for operation in aggressive, corrosive surroundings.

Special models must also be specified for operational temperatures below 5°C  and over 30°C. Under no circumstances may standard products be employed with the nominal load in such conditions.

Wheels/castors, housing, blocking system and axle attachments form a  functional unit. Liability applies only to original products.

All possible load or strain conditions must be taken into account when choosing
wheels/castors. They must otherwise be covered by additional security supplements.

2. Misuse

Misuse, or non-adherance to the prescribed correct use of wheels and castors,
applies for example, when:

  • 2.1 they are subject to higher loads than the max. load capacity laid down in the catalogue.
  • 2.2 they‘re used on unsuitable, uneven floor surfaces.
  • 2.3 surrounding temperatures are to high or too low.
  • 2.4 equipment with blocked wheels is moved forcibly.
  • 2.5 particularly aggressive media are allowed to act.
  • 2.6 unprescribed blows or overloading occur.
  • 2.7 foreign bodies are allowed to penetrate the tyres or wheel/castor surfaces.
  • 2.8 they are subject to excessive speeds.
  • 2.9 alterations are made that were not cleared with the manufacturers.

3. Product capacity

Product capacity demands not defined in our catalogues, brochures or capacity
descriptions must be cleared with us.

The pertinent DIN, ISO and CEN norms as well as the RAL-RG 607/10 merchandise guidelines are of particular relevance here.

4. Product maintenance

Wheels and castors must be regularly serviced according to their requirements

  • greasing the bearings
  • adjustments to loose connections

Only cleaning agents free of corrosion aiding or damaging ingredients may be used.

Wheels/castors or components must be replaced as soon as malfunction becomes evident.

Aggressive cleaning agents or untreated natural soil may promote staining. Thermoplastic rubber treads contain oil, which can result in contact discoloration on sensitive or untreated surfaces. Our staff will gladly advise you on this issue.
